Question about GM2 on 12 Escalade Premium

Post by Smrtss1 » Mon Dec 24, 2018 12:19 am

New guy with what’s probably an old repeated question. I have a 12 Escalade Premium with a factory BOSE, NAV, DVD player that I’m trying to replace with a Pioneer AVIC-7200NEX. I bought the GM2 harness to connect the Maestro which apparently is the wrong one. GM2 harness is one large block terminal and I have (need) a harness to match the factory 4 terminals (+1 for the USB) in the back of the factory radio. Do I need the GM5 harness or something else?
I’ve already wired the idatalink harness to the Pioneer harness so returning it isn’t going to happen and I can just trim the wiring back. I wired it with the hopes of trimming install time down because my toddler and my wife’s schedule doesn’t give me much of any free time, so no I didn’t have an opportunity to pull the radio (I blindly trusted the idatalink website). I’m a little bit more than slightly pissed that I essentially wasted my money because the website shows needing the GM2 harness and the AVGM2. I flashed the Maestro so hopefully I’m not completely screwed and have to buy a new RR module. So did I just flush my money down the toilet and I have to completely start over or will the GM5 work and a GM5 AV cable?

Gm5 cables will work, I ran into this the other day. Typically some newer Gm trucks with nav use the gm2 wiring harness. They changed the navigation radio in the later models that had xm radio built in radio and had a different connector. The Escalade never used the "different" Navigation radio since it it has it own unique radio. Be sure to flash your RR as a non nav radio if you want to retain oem xm radio. If you flash as if it has oem nav the xm retention will not populate.

Reflash as non NAV radio. Got it. Thank you for the tip.

Do I have to do anything else to make sure NAV and XM work other than having the XM receiver plugged in?
