2019 STI Maestro RR2 Pioneer Head Unit Issues

Post by erandall »

I installed a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX in my 2019 STI limited with the Harman Kardon system. I'm having a weird issue where the screen will freeze, the audio stops playing and there's a box in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. This will eventually clear, but it happens randomly and quite often. After a lot of troubleshooting, I found it I disconnect the data cable coming from the Maestro to the back of the head unit, the problem goes away.

I've verified all of the wiring, the Maestro the head unit all have the latest firmware.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you attach a video of the issue you are experiencing?

I won't be able to get a video until this weekend because I'll have to take the dash apart to reconnect the cable.

But, what is happening is it will play sound just fine, but then it beeps, I get the box that pops up in the lower left hand corner of the picture and I get no sound and the unit becomes unresponsive. Sometimes it will clear up in a couple of seconds, other times it'll be minutes.

I confirmed it happens no matter what audio source it's using, or sometimes if nothing is playing and just going through the menus.

I have not had the issue since I disconnected the data cable from the back of the head unit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

The radio has a yellow/black wire in the harness, is there anything connected to it currently?

The yellow/black wire from the head unit is not connected to anything

also, the blue connector is not being used on the Maestro

As an update ...

I spoke with support earlier and we found that if the car isn't fully started and just on aux power, this doesn't happen, but when you start the car is does.

She recommended that I disconnect all of the CAN connections (ODB2 & climate control wires). I did this and the issue still exists, I also checked the data wire for continuity and all 4 appear to be fine.

Also, here's a picture of the RR2 showing what is connected - https://www.dropbox.com/s/euptj0p9gai5w ... 8.jpg?dl=0

I spoke with support again today. Suspect it might be bad hardware, I've ordered a replacement RR2 that will be here Tuesday, I'll give that a try when it comes in.
