A couple of issues with the dsr1 with a 2019 tundra

Post by budjb » Sun Aug 25, 2019 3:31 pm

I've had a couple of issues I'd like to get fixed with my install.

First, I cannot adjust the volume of the voice assistant, and the volume is rather low. I've tried with the radio settings and looked for an option in the flasher to no avail.

Second, using the voice assistant (which lowers the volume) to place a call resets the phone call volume to that of the voice assistant. I have to adjust the call volume to fix it.

Finally, often when I'm in a call and receive a text, the volume lowers again, just as with the voice assistant.

Thanks for any help.

On the DSR1, what is the switch set to, low or high? It should be set to low. That can definitely affect the audio level on everything you're mentioning here.

It's set to low for sure. To be clear, the actual audio stream from music sources has the correct audio level. Volume and EQ works correctly. Even setting call volume via the radio menus is fine.

The only time this becomes an issue is when the voice assistant is used or a text message is received, which generates a chime. It seems as if the DSR1 1) has no way to adjust the voice assistant volume (even though there is a menu item for this on the radio itself, and so that data/setting should be available to read) and 2) has issues with keeping the correct volume when switching between the voice assistant stream and other audio streams.

I guess a question is: Is the voice assistant stream volume supposed to be adjustable through the DSR1? If not, can support for it be added? It's sometimes quite difficult to hear it while driving at the audio level it seems be set at.

Whether it is adjustable or not, the failure to switch between volumes when the voice assistant/text message stream is played seems like a bug, for sure.

I see you're running firmware v1.6; we have done some updates to the software since then, and the current version is 1.8. This will likely address your volume issues. Also make sure the main board DSR firmware is up to date (v1.9.4).

Cool, I'll pull it and update it. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK, all updated. I found that the voice assist volume is respected, but even at max (7 on the settings) it's nowhere near as loud as the factory volume. It would be great if the volume level meaningfully matched the stock radio/amp for voice assist.

Also, the volume reset when switching between voice assist and to a phone call still occurs. Looks like that bug's still around.

Can you take a video of the volume reset occurring? If the engineer can see it happening, it is a lot more likely he'll be able to figure out what's going on.
