Additional AMP Receives Power In Reverse Order

Postby mikemuzik » Mon Jun 19, 2017 1:43 pm

2016 Ford Explorer 8 speaker w/Sync
I have a second amp connected with RCA cables in speaker outputs 7 & 8. The amp and the attached subwoofer have been working fine until late last week. All of a sudden the amp stopped coming on.

My vehicle has a sleep mode, meaning that the factory amp and now the Kenwood XR600-6DSP will remain on even when the accessory power has been turned off, until the vehicle goes to sleep... about 5 mins later.

The second amp that I am using is also a Kenwood. When powered on it has a blue and red glowing light. I've noticed that when the vehicle goes into sleep mode, this second amp turns on, I see the glowing light. However, when the vehicle is awake, either opening a door, turning the accessory power on or turning the ignition on, this amp no longer receives power.

Basically, the second amp is now only getting turned on when the vehicle goes to sleep. I've had to disconnect the second amp to eliminate drain on my battery.

Please provide guidance on this situation.

Have you tried resetting the AR? This can be done by disconnecting power to the unit, then reconnecting it. I assume you used the solid blue wire on the FO2 harness to power the second amp? Can you verify what the voltage on the multi-meter reads when you meter the amp turn-on wire that runs from the first kenwood amp to the second amp?

I have disconnected and flashed the AR twice, to no avail.

At the moment, I am unable to verify the voltage of the amp turn-in wire.

Are there any updates on this issue? Are you able to replicate this issue?

When the Kenwood XR600-6DSP is powered on, the amp turn on wire reads 2.0 on the multi-meter.

When the XR600-6DSP is powered off, when the car is off and goes to sleep, the amp turn on wire gains power and reads 25.0 on the multi-meter.

You're not metering that wire properly. Your meter needs to be in DC volts.

It will be several days before I have the opportunity to open my panels to gain access to the wiring to measure the volts in DC.

Aside from that, when I did measure the voltage, it clearly shows values in reverse order.

Are you able to replicate?

Aside from measuring the volts for the remote turn on, do you have any other suggestions? Do you think that the AR module or the harness needs to get replaced? I flashed it again to see if the flashing would resolve the issue. It did not.

Without measuring the volts I can visualize that the second amp is receiving power when the vehicle is off. The second amp is also a Kenwood and lights up when it is powered on. It lights up when the vehicle is off. The lights on the amp go off when I open the door, which wakes the vehicle.

Just a quick question- do you have both amp turn-on wires hooked to this wire, or just the second amp?

I am connected to just the second amp turn-on wire. The one where you have to splice it to make the connection.

The amp is actually what sends the turn-on voltage on that wire. So if it's truly acting backwards, the Kenwood output could be damaged/defective.

Are you using an extension harness?

I am not using the extension harness. If you believe that the issue is with the XR600-6DSP and not the AR module, I can contact Kenwood for support.

Upon further research, the blue wire IS sent by us- to test and see if the output is actually bad, cut the wire in half and meter the maestro side of the wire in DC volts. If it's reading strangely, then the output is likely bad. If it isn't, then there may be an issue with the Kenwood.
