2016 Silverado USB Power

Post by DevlshOne »

I have installed a Pioneer AVIC-5201nex unit in a 2016 Silverado (4" screen / no amplifier), using an RR/GM3 solution. Everything seems to work except for the two USB ports and SD slot in the center console. The vehicle has THREE male mini-USB cables available to connect to the head unit, BROWN, GRAY and BLACK. I've tried multiple combinations and the only thing that seems to have any effect at all is the BROWN mini-USB, but it results in a "Hub Error" message on the head unit. I suspect that the center console USB/SD slot hub requires power to operate but the GM3 kit did not come with anything that supplies that power. Am I missing something? Am I in the ballpark?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

If the radio displays that message, it means that it sees the factory USB port array as a hub, and unfortunately will not work. In that case you would be best off dropping the UBS provided by the radio manufacturer down and using it, or connecting a USB extension/mount available by other 3rd party manufacturers to connect your devices.
