2013 F-150 Back up camera wiring

Post by DED »

Recently replaced the stock radio with a Kenwood DDX8906 with a Maestro RR interface module. After the install I have been unable to display the back up camera output on the Kenwood screen. Looking at the connections I am a bit confused by the video adapter harness provided which has a RCA connector on one end and a 12 pin connector on the other. The mating vehicle connector uses 4 of the pins illustrated in the attached picture, the connector on the adapter harness only has 2 pins which do not line up with the vehicle harness connector. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

Ps if someone can explain how to post pictures I would appreciate it.

Did the camera originally show on the radio, or did it run to the mirror?

Dara thank you for the reply. The camera only displayed on the mirror.

Because it displays in the mirror, the wiring is only run up to the mirror. There is no video signal at the radio area. To get the backup camera to display on the radio, you would have to splice an RCA into the video signal at the mirror, run it down to the new radio, and plug it into the backup camera input.

Ok and thanks. Just out of curiosity do you know the purpose of the 4 wire, 12 pin factory connector which then mates to the Maestro 2 wire, 12 pin connector in the last part of step 10 of the Maestro Rr instructions for the Ford F-150 with MyFord 4 inch screen 2013-2014? It seems odd that there are now 4 wires which no serve no purpose. Thanks again for the help.

It would have plugged into the original 4.3" screen. Because that screen isn't retained, it isn't needed. In cases where the camera showed on the screen, it would connect to that, and there are data wires there as well.
