Using steering wheel voice command with bluetooth

I just had a kenwood dmx706s installed with maestro idlink. Controls work with android auto. I press voice command on wheel and I get google assistant. My question is how do I use voice command with data turned off? With factory stereo i would press voice command and could make a call via bluetooth. Is this possible with my aftermarket head unit? When I press voice command offline I get a pop up box on head unit that says voice configuration has been completed, Press Restart. When I press restart it flashes "talk into Mic" for an instant. Nothing happens.

Kenwood's design/configuration for voice command simply activates google voice or siri. I don't know that voice commands will work with the data turned off. That might be more of a question for Kenwood.

Update:
Solved.
To use my steering wheel control "offline" to make a bluetooth call with voice recognition thru my kenwood dmx706s, I have to press the off hook button instead of the voice command button. It then listens and makes my call like when I used my Toyota factory setup. Thanks.
