Installing a Kenwood DMX706 in a '19 Frontier SV

Post by mjbarr3 »

Hello, Please forgive the ignorance, but I have only done the swap long ago before their were Steering Wheel Controls. Anyway, The SW comes with a cord that plugs into the main controller and then into the HU with a 3.5 m on one end and a blue plug on the other. It also has a Blue/Yellow wire. My question is , Do I need the B/Y wire and the plug or can I just use the plug to the back of the HU. and if I just use the lead with the 3.5m plug , what do I do with the Bl/Y wire ?

Thanks for your help.

It depends on the radio you have. You never use both; You will use either the 3.5mm or the blue/yellow. Tape off the one you don't end up using.

Thank, I'll use the 3.5m plug. I have another question,
the instruction for my HU say that the Bl/yellow goes to the steering wheel remote input. Which wire color would that be on the SW harness ?

Thanks

You will hook blue/yellow to blue/yellow, and tape off the other connector.

OK, I think I have all the harnesses connected to where they should be and I am now ready to start installing the Maestro SW and the HU in the dash. I seem to remember reading something about not plugging the SW in until all the connections are made and the HU has power. Ca someone clarify this or perhaps direct me to the proper sequence .

Thanks, Mike

There actually is no proper sequence. Just wire it up and you're good to go.

If you don't get a quick green flash when you turn on the key, the module isn't turning on. Ensure the red and black wires are hooked up with the red and black of the radio, and that there is accessory power going to the SW.
